Cost of Living

Living in the Czech Republic, as anywhere else, may be anywhere from relatively cheap to quite expensive, depending mainly on location and type of accommodation and the choice of lifestyle – preferred meals, entertainment etc. Prague, of all places, can be relatively expensive, especially as regards the accommodation.

Meals are available in the Srdcovka restaurant or in the Dutch Pub restaurant, where students have a 10% discount on the lunch menu on the ISIC card.


The University of Entrepreneurship and Law (UEL) does not provide any medical or health instance for any of its students, nor does it vouch for any medical expenses incurred by any of its students. It is the sole responsibility of students to take out instance according to their preference and the rules of their countries of residence.

After taking out local health care instance in Czech Republic, students can visit almost all medical facilities in Czech Republic, which are numerous especially in Prague. The closest students´ health care centre is situated 2 minutes walk from University.

Study facilities

The University of Entrepreneurship and Law (UEL) offers complete facilities including well-furnished, fully air-conditioned rooms and halls, equipped with multi-media presentation devices, library with a number of PCs, copiers and printers available to students, books and magazines. Wi-fi connection to the Internet in classrooms, computer and study rooms are matter of fact.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements for Bachelor Studies:

  • Czech citizens: completed secondary education (notarized copy of the leaving examination certificate must be sent to the University with the application form)
  • Non Czech citizens: completed secondary education (notarized copy of  recognized document should be submitted latest at registration)
  • Non Czech citizens should have a relevant command of the Czech or Slovak language
  • Applicants graduated from secondary special schools (VOŠ) and wishing to study in the bachelor program (2 – 3 standard terms) are required to have graduated in economics and management
  • Applicants for part-time studies should have at least one year of relevant work experience.

Entry Requirements for Master Studies:

  • Czech citizens: Completed bachelor studies or relevant part of master studies (notarized copy of diploma)
  • Non Czech citizens, who do not have Bachelor diploma from a Czech or Slovak school, have to submit a notarized copy of recognized document attesting a graduation at the university type of school.

Visa requirements

Before arrival in the Czech Republic it is not necessary to apply for the visa if you are citizen of EU country or Iceland, Norway, Lichtenstein and Switzerland. There are also other countries whose citizens are exempt from short-term visa requirement (see the following link).

However, for citizens of other countries it is obliged to ask for short term visa which is valid up to 90 days or long term visa which is valid up to 365 days. Visas are issued at Czech embassy or consulate in the country of origin where it is also possible to receive more information.

Short term visa (valid up to 90 days)

  • Visa Application Requirements:
  • Form
  • Travel document
  • Photograph
  • Document substantiating purpose of stay (for example: registration confirmation, acceptance letter, hosting agreement with a research institution in case of scientific research etc.)
  • Proof of accommodation or proof of sufficient financial means to arrange for accommodation (for example: dormitories accommodation etc.)
  • Proof of sufficient financial means for subsistence during a stay in the Schengen area, for return to a country of residence or for a transit to a third country, in which the applicant resides or can obtain financial means legally
  • Information, which will allow to ascertain the intention to leave the territory of the Czech Republic/Schengen area before the expiry of visa (for example: (air plane) ticket reservation, proof of financial means, employment confirmation, proof of immovable property, proof of family or work ties etc.)
  • Travel medical insurance


Long term visa (valid more than 90 days)

Obliged also for citizens of other countries whose are exempt from visa requirements (see the following link):

  • A travel document
  • 2 photograph
  • A completed form “Application for long-stay Visa”
  • Funds to cover the cost of stay in the territory
  • A document confirming the purpose of stay in the territory of the Czech Republic.

Applications for visa extension or for long-term residence permits must be submitted to the Foreign Police at the earliest 90 days, and at the latest 14 days, before the expiration date of the visa. Applicants are required to pay a fee upon submission of the application. Visas for periods of more than 90 days can be cancelled if the person is convicted of a crime, does not fulfill the purpose of residence for which the visa was granted, or if the person requests its cancellation. In cases where visa applications are declined, appeals will not be considered. Applicants must apply for visa extension within the required period and pay the proper fees. They will not be notified.


Upon arrival at the airports in the Czech Republic, all citizens are required to submit the following documents

  • Valid passport/ID Card;
  • Valid Czech student visa (if requested).



  • According to article 93 of law 326/1999, foreigners have 3 days from arrival to report their place of residence in the Czech Republic at the office of the Foreign Police
  • Students can apply for both short and long term visas
  • Expedition of the visa granting process is possible by requesting the Embassy to send all documents to the Czech Republic by courier – the applicant is responsible for all expenses (in this case, the Consulate is required to send the documents by the next day).

Depending on the particular program, students are offered internships, both as part of their curricula, or as extra-curricular activity, with various institutions of their interest. The University of Entrepreneurship and Law (UEL) cooperates with a great number of both private companies and public agencies that make it likely for everyone to succeed in the search for the right internship. 

Extra-mural and leisure activities

Every year students hold a large number of cultural, sporting and other events.  Specialist seminars, debates and conferences are organized in the school not only in the sphere of management, finance, politics, etc., but also on various topical themes. These events are also attended by research workers and specialists with practice.
